Do you ever struggle on a seemingly random day with an insatiable appetite? Yeah, me too.
Learning to listen to your body – really listen – is a skill that takes a lot of practice and a lot of trial and error. It’s on days like this that it’s especially important to practice mindfulness; pause and focus on what you’re feeling and making a thoughtful decision about what you eat and when you eat it. We are often so quick to grab the first food we can get our hands on at the first feeling of hunger. Instead, ask yourself:
When did I eat last?
Am I truly hungry? Bored? Tired?
Have I had enough water?
What am I craving? Why?
Is the food that I want to eat something that will help me reach my goals?
We all work hard, play hard and train hard. There will be days that our metabolism is revved up and our bodies are hard at work repairing and recovering. Practice being aware of what is happening and making choices based on what your body (not your mind) is telling you.
