I’m sure you’re all familiar with the concept of “Eat This, Not That.” It’s not always as easy as it seems. Let’ take a look at a few easy swaps that can have a significant impact on your daily intake.
Pasta. While noodles vary slightly, on average a cup of cooked pasta will run you about 220 calories and 43 carbs. Yikes. There are two healthier options: zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash. Take a look:
1 cup of zucchini noodles = 60 calories and 14 carbs
1 cup of spaghetti squash = 42 calories and 10 carbs
Rice. Brown, white, jasmine…all of them are calorie and carb dense. Just ½ cup of brown rice has 109 calories about 46 carbs. Rice is okay if it’s eaten after a good workout, but try this sub for “anytime” meals:
½ cup of cauliflower rice = 19 calories and 3 carbs
Try these simple suggestions and notice what a difference it makes in how you feel. You’re likely to get a pleasant surprise the next time you step on a scale.
